NZIHF Coaching Course Held in Auckland

An introduction to coaching course was put on by the NZIHF in Auckland over the weekend, which had a key focus on parents and players beginning their coaching career.

17 People attended the course with a mix of experienced national team coaches from ice hockey and inline backgrounds, as well as parents who are currently part of the Learn to Play programme who wanted to understand more about coaching and build up their experience.

The event featured both classroom and on-ice activities, with approximately 40 players helping coaches run practice drills and apply knowledge learned in the classroom.

Thank you to all of those who helped run the day and those who attended.

 

Adult Skills Sessions

Beginning on Thursday 7th November, AIHA will be running 6 Adult Skills Sessions.
 
These sessions are aimed at the AHL ‘B’ and ‘C’ division players. Players will be divided by skill level to ensure they get the appropriate training.
 
Sessions will begin with a focus on skill development, and end with Small Area Games.
 
No need to RSVP, simply turn up on the night.
 
Where: Paradice Botany
Time: 7:00pm – 8:00pm
When: 7 November – 12 December (6 consecutive Thursdays)
Coaches: Justin Daigle, A.J. Spiller, Rachel Park
Cost: $20 per session (Cash and Eftpos payments available at the door)

Bantam & Junior League Summer Training

Beginning on Tuesday 5 November, AIHA will be running 6 summer trainings for players in the Bantam/Junior age groups.
 
These sessions will begin with off-ice training followed by on-ice skill development. Off-Ice will consist of body weight exercises, running and stretching, all aimed at educating players about the importance of off-ice training and how to do it properly.
 
On-Ice focus will be on skill development, beginning with power skating and moving into various skill drills.
 
Goalies will also have a designated space at the beginning of training to work on skills.
 
We will end all trainings with Small Area Games.
 
No need to RSVP, simply turn up on the night.
 
Where: Paradice Botany
Time: 7:15pm – 8:00pm Off-Ice, 8:15pm – 9:15pm On-Ice
When: 5 November – 10 December (6 consecutive Tuesdays)
What to Bring: Running shoes, shorts, t-shirt & full playing gear

Cost: $20 per session (Cash and Eftpos payments available at the door)

2019 AIHA Annual General Meeting – Invitation and Information

The AGM will take place on Wednesday 20th November 2019, 7:00pm upstairs in the meeting room at Paradice Avondale.

AIHA Members are encouraged to attend to hear about what is happening within the club and its future.

Super League Summer Series – Register Now!

We are pleased to announce the extension of our Super League to include a mini tournament in November!

Teams will be shuffled from the normal season to give all players a chance to play with new teammates.

The format will be the same with games being 3 on 3. With enough interest, we hope to have 4 Under-12 teams and 2 Under-9 teams. We will provide playing jerseys for these teams.

Team numbers will be determined by the number of registrations received.

Dates & Times:

November 10 at Avondale – 8:45am – 10:15am
November 17 at Botany – 8:15am – 9:45am
November 24 at Avondale – 8:45am – 10:15am

Cost:

There is no cost to register. Learn to Play concession cards will be used as a payment method for all games, just like the regular Super League season. We will have cash/EFTPOS and credit card facilities as well.

NZIHF Coaching Course – Free Training for Players 13 & Under

Free Training for Players 13 & Under

We are seeking players & goalies aged 13 & Under to take part in a free training session on October 19 at Paradice Botany. The trainings will be led by coaches attending a NZIHF coaching course.

Players must have a minimum of one year ice hockey experience and be able to confidently skate/play.

Who: Any player or goalie aged 13 and under

Date: Saturday October 19th

Time: 10:15 am – 12:15 pm @ Paradice Botany

What to bring: Full protective equipment

World Girls Ice Hockey Weekend “Have a Go Day” 2019

Thank you to everyone who came along to our Girls Only Have a Go Day on Saturday 28th September!

We had a fantastic morning of ice hockey with close to 60 girls and women on the ice, with the majority trying out ice hockey for the very first time!

A big thank you to all of our volunteers who helped on the day – we couldn’t do this without you!

2019 Super League Finals

The 2019 Super League has now finished and we saw some amazing hockey this year!

The level of hockey in both leagues has risen so much throughout the season leading to a competitive, exciting & most important of all, fun playoff finals!

Playoffs :
Both U12 teams were tied with 2 goals each at the end of the first period. So the fate of the teams was to be decided in the second period and the chance to reach the finals was up for grabs. In the end, the Bats and Spiders won their respective playoff matches by 1 point!

U12 Finals:
3rd and 4th place game: draw 2-2 Flash and Hulk
Grand final: Spiders 6-2 Bats
2019 U12 AIHA Champions: Spiders

U9 best of 3 play off series:
Team Iron Man win 2 games after Supers and Iron Man drew the second match.
2019 AIHA U9 Champions: Ironman

Thanks to all the volunteers, parents, and players – in particular thanks to Paul Taillon, Chief Referee for all the hard work with the Junior Referees Program and making sure that every Sunday game was resourced and extremely well refereed, our young ref’s have done an outstanding job!!

Now we look forward to our four teams heading to Christchurch for the U12 Nationals on 5-6 October, including an All-Girls Team – The Bat Girls!! More on that very soon!!!
