2021 U9/U12 National Tournament Announcement

AIHA and NZIHF are excited to announce the dates and information for the 2021 U9/U12 National Tournament being held in Dunedin from Friday 15th October to Sunday 17th October.

AIHA will be sending 2x U9 Teams and 4x U12 Teams to the tournament including 6 players and 1 goalie for each team. The U9 teams will be playing against other U9 teams from around New Zealand, and the U12 teams will be playing against other U12 teams from around New Zealand.

The U9/U12 National Tournament is an enjoyable experience for players and their families and is the best way to end the season!

When: Friday 15th October – Sunday 17th October
Where: Dunedin
Cost: $495 per player (inclusive of flights, accommodation, and tournament fees)

Flight Schedule:
Depart Auckland on Friday 15th October at 12:25pm
Depart Dunedin on Sunday 17th October at 7:10pm

Accommodation:
The teams will be staying at the Dunedin Holiday Park, located just a 10-minute walk (2-minute drive) from the Dunedin Ice Stadium where the games will be held.

The upfront cost to join the NZWIHL Squad and attend all practices is $150, as well as:

The total cost for a player travelling to all tournaments is $995.00

AIHA Term 2 School Holiday Programme Details

We will be running a Term 2 School Holiday ice hockey programme for both under 12 year olds and Bantam/Junior League players. Read below to find out more information and how to register.

For our Under 12 players we will be holding a programme at Botany.

For our Bantam & Junior League players we will be holding a programme at Avondale.

 2021 Term 2 Under 12 Years Old Holiday Programme – Botany:

Botany: Wednesday 21st , Thursday 22nd & Friday 23rd July, 2021

 Day Format:

  • On Ice 7:45 – 8:45am: We will start the day with a fun ice session working on all of the players individual skills.
  • Off ice 9:15 – 10:00am: We will work on stretching and educating the players on cool down and importance of flexibility as well as work on stick handling and doing various off ice stick handling drills/games.
  • 10:00am – 11:00am: Snack and Hockey classroom session
  • 11:00am – 12:00pm: Laser tag
  • 12:00pm – 1:00pm: Lunch and Hockey videos and movies
  • Free Skate/Games 1:00 – 3:00pm: To end the day, we will do some free skating during the public session. We will also have some off-ice activities planned during this period to keep some variety for the kids.

Pickup time is 3:00pm from Botany ice rink.

Cost:
$60.00 Per Day – This cost includes 1 hour laser tag on each day – Payment due at rink on the day

Food and drink is not included, so players will have to supply this themselves.

2021 Term 2 Bantam & Junior League Holiday Camp – Avondale:

Avondale: Thursday 15th & Friday 16th July, 2021

Day Format:

  • On ice 7:45 – 8:45am: day starts on the ice with a high level skills development session in stations format.
  • Off Ice 9:15 – 10:00am: players will be split into 2 groups. 1 group will work on flexibility and cool down stretching as well as education on pre training/pregame physical preparation. Meanwhile, the other group will work on stick handling and agility.
  • Classroom/video 10:15 – 11:00am: Players will receive some education on nutrition, pre-game mental preparation and focus techniques and will go through a team builder challenge in small groups.
  • Bakery/Gym 11:15 – 1:00pm: A quick stop at the bakery before we walk to “The People’s Gym” where the players will be put through and educated on off ice sport specific circuit style training. We will highlight technique, educate on muscle groups and go over the importance of training sport specifically.
  • Power Skating/Games 1:00 – 3:00pm: The day will finish with the players either taking part in the public session with coach guided power skating drills or (if the public session isn’t too busy) we will draw the netting and be able to play some cross ice games.

Pickup time is 3:00pm from Avondale ice rink.

Cost:
$60.00 Per Day – Payment due at the rink on the day.

Food and drink is not included, so players will have to supply this themselves.

We are excited to announce that the 2021 schedule for the U15 Auckland Teams has been finalised. Players born in 2007 – 2009 are eligible to play for the U15 Auckland Teams. The 2020 season marked the first time that Auckland has sent two travelling teams away.

Being part of the Auckland U15 Teams is a commitment by everyone involved to help create an environment that inspires, empowers, supports and recognises achievements. This is to be an enjoyable environment where players can excel and play for Auckland with pride.

Saturday 19th June @ Avondale 11:45am – 12:45pm
Saturday 3rd July @ Avondale 11:45am – 12:45pm
Saturday 14th August @ Avondale 11:45am – 12:45pm
Saturday 5th September @ Avondale 11:45am – 12:45pm

Tournament #1 (July School Holidays):

Expressions of Interest Open for AIHA Representative Team Staff

AIHA is seeking expressions of interest for Head Coach, Assistant Coach and Manager positions for our Under 15, Under 18 and NZWIHL Auckland Teams who will compete in their respective National Competitions.

We are looking to fill the following positions:

  • U15 team Head Coach (x2), Assistant Coach (x2), Manager (x2)
  • U18 team Head Coach, Assistant Coach, Manager
  • NZWIHL team Head Coach, Assistant Coach, Manager

 

U15 Auckland Blue & Auckland White Teams

The U15 teams are the entry point for all kids to compete on a National Level. This season, we are looking for staff who are focused on developing and including a wide squad of players.

The qualities we are looking for from a coaching and management staff at this level are patience, good communication, and an ability to lead a squad with the main focus being on development.

Player development and inclusion are the main goals of the U15 Teams for the 2021 NZBIHL Season.

Term 2 Learn to Play ice hockey sessions start this week and we have a special announcement to share with you!

Introducing Saturday Morning Learn to Play Sessions!
Due to increasing demand we will be launching Saturday Learn to Play sessions in Term 2!

Anyone is welcome to attend and as always, you can come to as many Learn to Play sessions per week as you like.

The sessions will run 11:15am – 12:15pm each Saturday at Paradice Botany during the school term.

Term 2 Start Dates:

  • Monday nights at Avondale: Monday 3rd May – on ice at 5:45pm
  • Wednesday nights at Avondale: Wednesday 5th May – on ice at 5:45pm

Bantam & Junior League Weekly Trainings

Bantam & Junior trainings will begin next Thursday 8th April at Paradice Botany. Below is the training schedule prior to School Holidays.

Thursday 8th April at Botany: 6:45pm – 8:00pm
Tuesday 13th April at Avondale: 6:45pm – 7:45pm
Thursday 15th April at Botany: 6:45pm – 8:00pm

We will then have a break for School Holidays and get back into training on Tuesday 4th May at Paradice Avondale. From here, the training schedule will get back to normal with every Tuesday at Avondale and Thursday at Botany, both from 6:45pm – 8:00pm. Along with Sunday morning trainings alternating at each rink.

The first games will be held on Saturday 8th May. This will give the players a week of practice time before the first games start, rather than coming straight back from School Holidays, with minimal practice time into their first game.

Team Rosters are currently being constructed and will be communicated when they are finished, along with the full season schedule.
