NZIHL Showdown Series COVID-19 Update – 4th September 2020

By News

Dear Ticket Holder,

We are writing to you about the Government’s announcement today, 4th September, regarding the COVID-19 Alert Levels in Auckland.

As of writing, the Alert Level status in Auckland is as follows:

  • Auckland to remain at Alert Level “2.5” until at least Wednesday 16th September, 11:59pm.
    • During this time, a mass gathering limit of 10 people will be in place within Auckland
  • On Monday 14th September, the Government will meet to discuss changes to the Alert Levels.

Given the mass gathering restrictions currently in place, it is not yet possible to re-launch the NZIHL Showdown Series.

AIHA previously made the following changes to the NZIHL Showdown Series Schedule:

Thursday 13th August:
NZIHL Showdown Series Game 1 at Botany – POSTPONED – replacement date TBC

Saturday 22nd August:
NZIHL Showdown Series Game 2 at Avondale – POSTPONED – replacement date TBC

Saturday 29th August:
NZIHL Showdown Series Game 3 at Botany – POSTPONED – replacement date TBC

Saturday 5th September:
NZIHL Showdown Series Game 4 at Avondale – POSTPONED – replacement date TBC

At this stage, provided Auckland has returned to a state in which mass gatherings are permitted, it is our intention to re-schedule the NZIHL Showdown Series games from late-September onward.

We are currently working hard on securing replacement dates for all four games and will communicate this shortly once we know these dates.

Any tickets you hold currently will remain valid for any rescheduled games.

We continue to thank you for your patience and understanding during this time. We are working hard to resume ice hockey as soon as we can do so safely, and will continue to provide updates as we can.

UPDATE 25TH AUGUST: Read the latest update here https://www.aiha.org.nz/aiha-covid-19-update-4th-september-2020/

Dear Members,

The AIHA Board of Directors met last night to discuss yesterday’s Government announcement regarding the COVID-19 Alert Levels in Auckland.

As of writing, the Alert Level status in Auckland is as follows:

  • Auckland to remain at Alert Level 3 until 11:59pm Sunday 30th August
  • Auckland to move to Alert Level 2 on 12:01am Monday 31st August until 11:59pm Sunday 6th September
    • During this time, a mass gathering limit of 10 people will be in place within Auckland

As such, the current Alert Levels and restrictions do not allow for a resumption of scheduled ice hockey activity.

On Sunday 6th September, the Government will review the situation and provide an update to the public.

The AIHA Board of Directors will meet on Sunday 6th September to discuss the latest Government update and will provide an update to its members as soon as possible.

At this stage, if the Government’s decision on Sunday 6th September is to move to Alert Level 1 immediately or within 48 hours of this announcement, or, to remain at Alert Level 2 but increase the limit on mass gatherings within Auckland from 10 to 100, AIHA intends to resume scheduled activity from the weekend of 12/13th September.

As previously, any resumption of scheduled activity is solely dependant on the Alert Level status and restrictions allowing for play to resume.

We continue to thank you for your patience and understanding during this time. We are working hard to resume ice hockey as soon as we can do so safely, and will continue to provide updates as we can.
