2020 Adult Hockey League Season Launch – Team Rosters & Schedule

By News

This is the update you’ve all been waiting for  – the release of the 2020 AHL season team rosters and schedule!

We know you’ve all totally been hard at work during the extended “off-season”, keeping yourselves in peak physical condition in sheer anticipation of the 2020 AHL season, and we have good news…it’s about to pay off!

We’ve released the first part of the 2020 schedule and all team rosters, which you can check out here: www.aucklandicehockeyhub.co.nz

Games start Saturday 27th June at Avondale & Botany!

A Division

The brand new 2020 season will see the resurgence of two of the oldest and most storied clubs in Auckland, Manuwai and the Jets. The six team division will also feature a number of NZIHL and Junior players.

Last season, Red Army took out the Rangers in a thrilling 3-game series to take the A-Division Championship. With the inclusion of many new players, the 2020 season will be anyone’s for the taking!

Good luck to the Blues, Manuwai, Jets, Rampage, Rangers and Red Army!

B Division

The B Division will again consist of a nine team competition. Last season, the Savages overcame the Eagles in a hard fought 3-game series.

Competing in the B Division will be the Chiefs, Eagles, Grizzlies, Jokers, Savages, Spartans, Storm, Vipers and Wolves. Good luck to all teams!

C Division

The C Division will consist of six teams again for the 2020 season. Last year, it was the Tigers who clawed their way through the Scorpions sting to win the Championship in another series that went to a third and final game.

Good luck for this season to the Bears, Hawks, Lions, Scorpions, Tigers and Venom!

General Update:

The schedule for June-August is now live along with the rosters for each team which can be found here: www.aucklandicehockeyhub.co.nz

The remainder of the 20 game schedule, along with playoffs will be released when it is finalised.

We wish everyone an enjoyable and competitive season and are excited to see you all at the rink!

If you have registered and can’t find your name on any team, please send an email to: generalmanager@aiha.org.nz

AIHA Return to Ice Hockey

By News

The wait is over!

ICE HOCKEY IS BACK!

PICTURED: An AIHA member showing their excitement
at the 2020 season resuming*

*Okay….may not actually be an AIHA member

We are pleased to announce that the 2020 ice hockey season is back on!

While ice hockey may look a little different to what you are used to for the near future, our aim is to deliver the same quality of ice hockey that you are used to, and for our playing leagues, our goal is to complete a full regular season of hockey for players in our Bantam, Junior and AHL leagues despite the late start to the season.

Please read below some very important information about what we need from you to resume to the 2020 season.

This includes requiring ALL PLAYERS to register their confirmation on whether they will be playing. You must register by Friday 5th June even if you do not intend to play in 2020. If you do not register your intent to play/not play, we will assume you are no longer playing in 2020 and your place on a team may be forfeited.

Click on the boxes below to read more information about your league and find out what you must do before you can play.

Learn to Play Programme - Click Here to Read More

Learn to Play Programme:

Learn to Play will temporarily be held during different time slots, due to requirements by the ice rinks to have a 30 minute buffer between sessions so they can clean/sanitise the facility and also to control numbers. The first two weeks of the schedule are:

  • Wednesday June 3 at Paradice Avondale 6:00pm – 7:00pm
  • Thursday June 4 at Paradice Botany – 6:00pm – 7:00pm
  • Monday June 8 at Paradice Avondale – 6:00pm – 7:00pm
  • Wednesday June 10 at Paradice Avondale – 6:00pm – 7:00pm
  • Thursday June 11 at Paradice Botany – 6:00pm – 7:00pm

Please make note of the time changes, these times will be in place until further notice. We will inform everyone when we can get back to the original time slots.

To reduce contact, players will continue to use their concession cards as normal and concession cards can be purchased but through EFTPOS/Credit Card payments only.

Players should bring their normal Learn to Play equipment, but must come to the rink dressed in all equipment except skates and helmets. At this time, players will not be permitted in to the ice rink until 10 minutes before their session starts, but we ask that you arrive early enough that we have time to record your attendance and clip your concession card. Player’s skates and helmets will need to be put on in the grandstands. When the session is over, players should only take their skates and helmet off before exiting the building and change outside / in their car.

Under the current gathering restrictions of Alert Level 2 (100 people), and because many LTP players require assistance from a parent/guardian to get dressed, we have put the following procedures and restrictions in place.

  • 40 players/goalies maximum per session
  • 40 parents/guardians (1 parent/guardian per player maximum allowed in the rink)
  • 6 on-ice coaches
  • 4 AIHA staff
  • 3 arena staff
  • = 93 people in total

You MUST register prior to each session. Only those who register in advance will be permitted to take part on the night. If you turn up and have not pre-registered, you will not be permitted inside. Registration is limited to 40 players/goalies and will be on a first come, first served basis. This is for number control and contact tracing purposes. Registrations will be opened on the Friday, for the following week’s sessions. The link to register will be emailed to all Learn to Play registered players each Friday.

U9 / U12 Super League - Click Here to Read More

U9/U12 Super League

There are currently 70+ players registered for the Super League. Under the current gathering guidelines of Alert 2, and with gatherings not permitted over 100 people, the Super League will need to wait until this number is increased prior to beginning the 2020 season.

The season start date will be advised once the current gathering limits are increased sufficiently, as at present, we cannot reasonably hold the Super League with the 100 person limit. At this stage our estimated season start date is late June; we will confirm an exact date when we know this.

We ask that you please re-register for the Super League at the link below, no additional payment is necessary, we would just like confirmation that everyone who has registered, still intends to play this season. Once we know registration numbers, the teams for each age group can then be put together and a schedule produced.

ALL PLAYERS must confirm their 2020 playing status at the following link, even if they do not intend to play. If you do not register using this form, we will assume you are no longer playing in the 2020 season and your place on a team may be forfeited. Registrations Close 5th June.

Bantam & Junior Leagues - Click Here to Read More

Bantam & Junior Leagues:

AIHA is aiming to complete a full regular season of hockey for players in Bantam and Junior leagues despite the late start to the season.  We are asking for your understanding as we will all have to accommodate changes to fit the regular season into a shortened number of months. Thank you to those who have already made partial or complete payment against your fees – these amounts will remain valid and if you have already paid your fees in full, no further league fees will apply.

The Bantam/Junior season will begin with two weeks of pre-season training prior to starting games. The pre-season trainings are included in the playing fees for the 2020 season. The updated payment schedule can be found below.

There are currently 80+ players registered in the Bantam/Junior leagues. Due to this, we ask that no parents/guardians enter the rink during training sessions. This will aid us in keeping the gather number below 100. When the gathering number increases, we will revisit this restriction and communicate it to everyone.

Players should bring their normal ice hockey equipment, but must come to the rink dressed in all equipment except skates and helmets. At this time, players will not be permitted in to the ice rink until 10 minutes before their session starts. Player’s skates and helmets will need to be put on in the grandstands. The changing rooms will be unavailable. When the session is over, players should only take their skates and helmet off before exiting the building and getting changed outside / in their car.

We won’t be able to put together a schedule until we know how many players are returning, which is why it is so crucial you confirm your intention to play/not play at the link below.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Have the due dates for my fees changed?
Yes. We have changed the due dates for all league playing fees since the season dates have changed and the season will now be more condensed. You can view these changes above, and also view your current fee status by logging in to your ClubHub account here: ClubHub Login

How can I check the fee status on my account?
You can view your current fee status by logging in to your ClubHub account here: ClubHub Login

I’ve already made a COMPLETE payment toward my 2020 fees, do I need to pay anything extra?
No. If you have already paid your fees in full, then there is nothing further for you to pay.

I’ve already made a PARTIAL payment toward my 2020 fees, do I need to pay anything extra?
Yes. You will need to pay any remaining fees as these are due on your account to continue playing.

I cannot play anymore during the 2020 season, can I receive a refund?
Yes, we will consider refunds to individuals on a case by case basis. AIHA has incurred significant costs already this season such as membership fees, ice fees, wages, equipment costs and day to day operational costs. Because of this, we may not be able to offer a 100% refund though we will do our best to make things fair for those who wish to receive a refund. Additionally, we ask that for those of you who are unable to play and are happy to do so, consider the possibility of a donation to the Club by not requesting a full refund of your fees.

How do I go about receiving a refund?
Contact us via email – info@aiha.org.nz – with your first and last name, phone number and playing league and reason for requesting a refund and we will respond to you as soon as possible.

Why is there not a published AHL schedule yet?
In order to put together a schedule, we need to know how many players will be returning. ALL PLAYERS must confirm their 2020 playing status at the following link, even if they do not intend to play. If you do not register using this form, we will assume you are no longer playing in the 2020 season and your place on a team may be forfeited. AIHA Information Update on Coronavirus (COVID-19)

By News

15th May 2020

AIHA Information Update on Coronavirus (COVID-19) & Return to Play

Dear Members,

Prior to the season starting in March, AIHA made the decision to postpone all our events until June and revisit this decision in May. Given the positive trend surrounding COVID-19 and the nationwide move to Alert Level 2, this remains our position and we are optimistic that ice hockey will return in June.

During this time, we have maintained a close relationship with Sport New Zealand who have provided ongoing support and advice. Under the current guidelines for community sport, the maximum gathering number is 10 people, this gathering number will be reviewed on Monday 25th May.

We are eager to get back to the rink and start ice hockey again. Our main focus will continue to be on the safety of our members and their families. A return to the rink will look different than what we were all used to pre COVID-19.

What we do not want to happen is to spark another outbreak of COVID-19 and consequently all the safety measures that will be put in place when we return to ice hockey will be there to combat this. We ask that you are patient and understanding with the processes that are developed.

Our return will not all be done in one large step; it will be broken down into pieces so we can best ensure that our safety measures are well practiced and efficient before returning to full capacity.

This balanced approach of returning to the rink will ensure that we can continue to provide the best and safest sporting experience to all our members.

Health and Safety measures for each league and age group are being developed now. We will have this information available to everyone prior to the start of your respective programmes.

We are excited and encouraged that ice hockey will return soon and we look forward to seeing everyone back at the rink in the very near future. Until then, Paradice will have their public sessions running very soon. We urge all our members to get out for a skate at Avondale or Botany when it is possible.

Through this period, we advise all our members to visit the below websites regularly, and to follow their guidance on reducing exposure risk:

Kind Regards,

Auckland Ice Hockey Association

Free Online Interactive Ice Hockey Video Training Sessions

By News

We’re proud to announce the launch of free online interactive ice hockey training sessions during lock down. While we may not be able to visit our local rink, there’s still plenty we can do off ice!

Lead by AIHA Head Coach Justin Daigle and General Manager A.J. Spiller, these sessions are open to anyone and are aimed at players of all ages and will run twice weekly on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

Simply join the Zoom call for each session at the link below and you’re in!

A.J. & Justin will take you through a range of exercises to stay on top of your ice hockey form, and answer your questions. Plus…there may be some special guests appearing – make sure you are apart of the action!

Each session is limited to 100 participants and is split in to the following two age groups:

  • Under 12 and Learn to Play
  • Bantam League, Junior League & Adult League

These sessions will be free of charge and will include the following:

  • 5 minute warm-up

Adult Hockey League, Bantam League & Junior League:

Dear Members,

Since our announcement last week about the postponement of the beginning of the 2020 AIHA playing league season, we have received a number of enquiries regarding payments and instalment fees, and have compiled the below information to answer some of your questions.

During this time, we will continue to take direction from the NZ Government, Ministry of Health and NZ Sport. It is our intention to fully review the situation again in June to evaluate the resumption of the 2020 season and as such we do not expect any of our members to make any additional payments toward their 2020 playing fees during this time. Therefore, you are not required to pay any overdue or upcoming fees at present and you will not receive any overdue fee notices from us for these.

If you have already paid your fees either in part, or in full, do not worry! We have a complete record of everyone’s fees status and are currently working through things to see what options are available in regards to this.

We hope to have these options together shortly and will communicate them with you when we do.

Finally, AIHA’s Head Coach Justin Daigle, and General Manager A.J. Spiller are putting together ideas on how we can remain in contact and stay active together over the coming weeks. Keep an eye out for further announcements and communication on this in the very near future.

Thank you for your patience and understanding, we hope to have more information available soon.

Until then, be safe, and take care of everyone around you.

Super League & Learn to Play Programme:

Dear Members,

Since our announcement last week about the postponement of the beginning of the 2020 AIHA playing league season, and the suspension of our Learn to Play Programme, we wanted to provide you with an update in regard to Learn to Play cards and hired gear.

First, we want to reassure you that all Learn to Play cards will not expire over this time, they will be usable when we are back up and running.

Second, we ask that you take care of any gear that you may have borrowed from AIHA until we are able to resume our normal Learn to Play programme. Please keep the gear dry and in a safe place. There will be no further charges for hired gear until we start back up with Learn to Play.

Finally, AIHA’s Head Coach Justin Daigle, and General Manager A.J. Spiller are putting together ideas on how we can remain in contact and stay active together over the coming weeks. Keep an eye out for further announcements and communication on this in the very near future.

Until then, be safe, and take care of everyone around you.

AIHA Information & Announcement Regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19)

20th March 2020 AIHA Information Update Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Dear Members,

With the recent developments surrounding COVID-19 and following the advice and directives from the New Zealand Government, Ministry of Health, Sport New Zealand and the New Zealand Ice Hockey Federation, AIHA has made the difficult decision to postpone the beginning of the 2020 season of ice hockey.

This decision means the start of the following scheduled ice hockey activities have been postponed:

  • Adult Hockey League
  • Junior League
  • Bantam League
  • Super League (Under 9 and Under 12)
  • Learn to Play Ice Hockey Programme
  • Pre-season trainings for Bantam & Junior League (on ice and off ice)

This is not a cancellation of the 2020 ice hockey season, but rather a delay to the start of it, for the above activities.

Our intention is to resume the above activity in June 2020, and the AIHA Board of Directors will meet in the lead up to this time to discuss the feasibility of this, based on what is happening at the time.

Given the 2020 NZIHL season has been suspended, a number of new ice time slots have been made available, which should allow AIHA to deliver the same level of ice hockey our players were expecting in 2020, with a similar season end date to the original season for each league. We will release more information on this as soon as possible and will continue to communicate updates to our members as we can.

Additionally, the school holiday programmes for our Under 9, Under 12, Bantam & Junior Leagues have been cancelled.

These decisions were voted on by the AIHA Board of Directors on Friday evening, after earlier consultation that day and night with Sport NZ, and following the latest directives from the Ministry of Health and New Zealand Government. The AIHA Board of Directors agree that the health and safety of its players, volunteers, families and wider community is paramount in a situation such as this, and that following the advice and directives provided by the Ministry of Health and Sport NZ, this is the correct decision given the circumstances.

This decision has been made with heavy hearts and will have a negative impact on many of our members, along with the impact to both Paradice Ice Skating Rinks and Centre Ice. We ask that you continue to support these businesses in any matter that you can during this time.

The fact that no ice hockey will be played for the foreseeable future has saddened us. The ice hockey rink is a gathering place for friends and family to enjoy each other’s company, along with the greatest sport on earth.

We ask for your understanding and patience during this unprecedented time and assure you that AIHA is doing everything it can to bring ice hockey back to its members as soon as possible.

Through this period, we advise all our members to visit the below websites regularly, and to follow their guidance on reducing exposure risk:

Kind Regards,
Auckland Ice Hockey Association
