Term 2 School Holiday Programme Details

Following the success of and great feedback from our Term 1 programme, we will be running a Term 2 School Holiday ice hockey programme for both under 12 year olds and Bantam/Junior League players. Read below to find out more information and how to register.

Under 12 Years Old Holiday Programme

Dates: Monday 8th, Tuesday 9th, Wednesday 10th July.
Location: Avondale

Day Format:
7:45am – 8:45am – On ice skills session
8:45am – 9:15am – Breakfast break
9:15am – 10:00am – Off ice stick handling skills
10:15am – 11:30am – Hang out and activities at Olympic Park
11:30am – 2:00pm – Supervised public session skate

Programme ends at 2:00pm – parents must pick up kids between 2:00pm and 2:30pm

Cost:
$45.00 Per Day – Payment due on the day (no pre-payment necessary)
Food and drink is not included, so players will have to supply this themselves.

Bantam & Junior League Holiday Camp

Dates: Tuesday 16th, Wednesday 17th, Thursday 18th July
Location: Avondale

Day Format:
7:45am – 8:45am – On ice skills session
8:45am – 9:15am – Breakfast break
9:15am – 10:00am – Off ice stickhandling skills
10:15am – 11:15am – Video review session
11:30am – 12:30pm – Cross ice games
1:00pm – 2:00pm – Gym session at The People’s Gym
2:00pm – Return to Paradice Avondale

Parents must pick up kids by 2:30pm at the Paradice Avondale rink.

Cost:
$55.00 Per Day – Payment due on the day (no pre-payment necessary)
Food and drink is not included, so players will have to supply this themselves.

Lake Tekapo Winter Classic Tournament July 2019

If you ever wanted a unique Kiwi outdoor hockey tournament experience here is a great option.

Open only to those aged 35 and over, this tournament will have you playing 2 games a day over 4 days on the Lake Tekapo outdoor ice rink.

Monday Night C-League & New Player Training Sessions

Dear Players,

We are trialling the introduction of a C League & Adult only Learn to Play training Programme, to be held on Mondays 5:30pm – 6:30pm at Avondale, starting Monday 27th May Any C League player or goalie, or newcomer to ice hockey is able to attend.

The classes are for C-League and new adult players only and are designed to teach and reinforce the basics of ice hockey, with a combination of drills and on-ice activities. The sessions include coaching staff on the ice and will be targeted to the skill levels of the people who arrive on the night.

If you are after more ice time, want to develop your ice hockey skills or know of someone who wants an easy way to learn the game, make sure you come along.

Initially, these classes will be held as a trial and if there is enough interest, this may become a regular and ongoing programme.

The cost to attend is $15 per player, per session and you can simply pay with cash or EFTPOS at the door.

Please note there won’t be a session held on Monday 3rd June due to Queen’s Birthday weekend.

Learn to Play Ice Hockey

Don’t Forget – Monday Night Learn to Play Hockey is On!

We are proud to have expanded our Learn to Play programme to now also take place on Monday nights 5:30pm – 6:30pm at Avondale weekly during the school term!

The Monday night sessions follow the same format as our regular Wednesday and Thursday night programmes, with on ice activities running from 5:30pm – 6:30pm. Simply bring along your concession card or pay cash at the door.

All players are welcome to attend the Monday night sessions, and you are still able to take part in the Wednesday and/or Thursday night Learn to Play sessions too – feel free to come along to as few or as many sessions as you like each week!

The Wednesday night at Avondale and Thursday night at Botany Learn to Play sessions will still be taking place as normal.

The next session takes place on Monday 20th May – we hope to see you there!

AIHA Says Farewell to Head Coach Csaba

Dear members,

It is with happiness for our head coach Csaba, and sadness for us, that we are writing to inform you that after many years of wonderful service to Auckland Ice Hockey and New Zealand Ice Hockey, Csaba Kercso-Magos will be resigning from his position as Head Coach with the AIHA and moving to the Netherlands to be with his fiancée.

We have been very fortunate to have had the services of Csaba for so many years, and we wish him all the best on his next adventure, wherever it may take him.

Csaba’s last day will be the 1st of July 2019 and we look forward to celebrating Csaba’s achievements, hard work and dedication to the ice hockey community with you all over the coming weeks.

Csaba will be missed but he has given us so much and we as a club look forward to continuing his work to date developing and growing this wonderful sport of ice hockey.

Bantam & Junior League Sunday Practice Dates

The combined Bantam & Junior League Sunday morning practices begin this week at Botany, 8:15am – 9:45am on ice.

The regular Tuesday and Thursday night practice sessions will still be happening as normal. Players are encouraged to attend as many practice sessions as possible.

Sunday practices will alternate between Botany & Avondale with on ice times as follows:

Sunday 5th May: Botany – 8:15am – 9:45am
Sunday 12th May: Avondale – 8:45am – 10:15am
Sunday 19th May: Botany – 8:15am – 9:45am
Sunday 26th May: Avondale 8:45am – 10:15am
Sunday 16th June: Botany – 8:15am – 9:45am
Sunday 23rd June: Avondale 8:45am – 10:15am
Sunday 30th June: Botany – 8:15am – 9:45am
Sunday 7th July: Avondale 8:45am – 10:15am
Sunday 28th July: Botany – 8:15am – 9:45am

Expressions of Interest for AIHA Representative Team Positions

AIHA Is seeking expressions of interest for coach, manager and assistant coach positions for our Under 15 and Under 18 Representative teams.

We are looking to fill the following positions:

  • U18 representative team head coach, assistant coach, manager.
  • U15 representative team head coach, assistant coach, manager.

As a club, we cannot function without the assistance of our members and sincerely appreciate any help you can provide.

If you are interested in any of these roles, please send your expression of interest specifying which role you wish to apply for (e.g., head coach or assistant coach or manager) to secretary@aiha.org.nz by 12pm Monday 29 April.

We are pleased to announce that Bantam & Junior League team rosters and game schedules have been finalised and can now be viewed online.

The first games take place on Monday 29th April, after the school holidays.

Players are encouraged to attend as many practice sessions as possible.

Sunday morning practices will start May 5th 2019 – we will send you more information about this closer to the time.

 

Playing Fees:

Just a friendly reminder that you must have paid your registration and first ice fee instalment before stepping on the ice for the first game.

Lake Tekapo Queen’s Birthday Weekend Skills Clinic

Anderson Coaching will be hosting a skills clinic in Lake Tekapo over Queen’s Birthday Weekend in 2019.

The 2019 clinic will focus on:

  • Four On-ice Training Sessions totaling 6.75 hrs for the players, focused on developing each players Individual Skills.
  • An additional three x 30 minute Goalie Only Sessions (may include selected players for drills)
  • Focus on activity and efficient ice use planned progressive practices including specific skill focused X-Ice games.
  • And much more
