Score Bench Training Session – Support The Club & Earn Money!

By News

Auckland Ice Hockey Association will run a score bench training session next Wednesday 13th March 7:00 – 8:00pm at Paradice Avondale.

If you have wanted to become more involved in the Auckland ice hockey community but do not skate (or even if you do), this is your chance.

Staffing the score bench involves working with the on-ice officials to record penalties and game statistics and working the game clock (one score bench official for each job).

Score bench officials earn $16 in game fees per game, and so this could be a great opportunity for high school age family members, too.

No experience necessary!

Please send RSVP to: referee@aiha.org.nz

New Referees Wanted – Support The Club & Earn Some Money!

By News

Auckland Ice Hockey Association is looking for new referees.

If you have wanted to become more involved in the Auckland ice hockey community, and if you skate and have some experience with the game of hockey, this is your chance.

Officiating is challenging and rewarding and another way to enjoy the game of ice hockey. You work with quality people as part of the “third team.” It is a great way to get in extra skating and with the rule knowledge and principles of officiating you will learn, you will become a better player. For younger players, there is the chance of officiating international hockey, ultimately (maybe even the NHL?). You’ll even earn some money for refereeing games too!

We need officials for all levels of hockey, from Under 12 cross-ice to the adult leagues. If you have never officiated before, don’t worry! We will train you up and put you on the ice with experienced officials as you get started.

If you are interested, please contact referee@aiha.org.nz for more information

The Importance of Neck Guards

By News

This video from Long Island, New York illustrates the importance of neck guards and why one of the cheapest pieces of ice hockey equipment is the most important.

As detailed in AIHA’s Health & Safety Policy, neck guards are compulsory while on ice surface for all minor (under 18) hockey players.

First Shift Have a Go Day Highlights

By News

Auckland Ice Hockey Association held it’s First Shift / Have a Go Day at Paradice Botany, Auckland on the 24th of November.

The rink was busy with more than 80 kids, ranging from 4 to 16 years old, taking part on the ice, trying ice hockey for the very first time.

With stations set up around the rink catering to different ages and skill levels, the kids were full of smiles and energy, even if some of them did fall over a few times!

The First Shift programme is designed to introduce new players to ice hockey in a fun and exciting way, with no prior skating or ice hockey experience required.

Find out more information about our learn to play ice hockey programme here: https://www.aiha.org.nz/learn-to-play

AIHA Would like to extend a big thank you to all of the parents and volunteers who assisted on the day, helping to put on a fun introduction to ice hockey for all of the kids that took part.
